i just found out that if you have your perscriptions mailed to you you get 90 days worth for the same price as a 30 days if picked up. rome
through 4 different companies over the last 12 years, I have had various PPO and HMO plans. My experiences might be unique but:
* the BlueCross/BlueShield PPO was the worst I have had. I frequently got mysterious bills for things that were "out of network" even though I asked everyone that I came in contact if there were in my network. I decided against PPO's going forward.
* Kaiser has been the best HMO I have used. Not perfect and I have come across a couple "bad apples" but was able to easily switch doctors/specialists. Like with any HMO you gotta know how to "play the game" but Andrea and I have had *excellent-go-the-extra-mile" care from Kaiser. In addition their online access to your own records is very helpful. I hate to admit this (people give me sour looks when I do) but I really like my care with Kaiser HMO. I can give many cases where they did extra stuff in network (that even I though was way beyond what was to be expected) and have approved and fully paid for non Kaiser specialists when they didn't have the experts on board (thousands of dollar here).
But, even though I only pay for my HMO plan (my employer pays for most of it) and some small co-pays at times, I am truly appalled at the cost of these procedures. It doesn't directly affect me now (i'm covered) but needs to be fixed I think.
