6030 Pitot Tubes {Free}

Snazzy blue pitot tubes for your 6030s.

Why are my tubes better? They are:
Made from instrument grade polyethylene (PE)
Cut to length with a special tube cutter that doesn't crush the ends.
Annealed in an oven to remove curves.
Rated to 200psi at 150C.
Flame resistant.
Chemical resistant.
Compliant to the Food and Drug Administrations 21 CFR 177.1520C for food contact.
Tensile strength of 20,000,000 Pascals.
Racing blue.

Believe it or not, i'm working on the entire 6030 situation.

I've got an arduino running differential pressure: ala air speed. And a separate analog, same one in the 6030, sensor. It plugs into your phone and the free open source program called gaggle. Obviously this wont work on apple products.

How long have you been flying sailplanes?

Planes, Sailplanes, and Hang gliders.

Pretty impressive.

I'm guess a slightly curved Pitot tube is not a big issue.

I've flown there. That's the local spot at Crystalair. Analogous to flying the Kagel bowls.

Also 1 knot is 100fpm.

that's why I'm over 12k without a single thermal in a south wind on the Lee side of the mountains. A 40 knot south wind. Trust me childish one , you know not of what you speak.

I've been there, in that said lee wave of baden-powell. You are right atop the airstrip. In that manner you are in the local "bowl" of easy glide home. Being out side of glide and exploring the range is where I think it gets interesting.

I think that thermal flying is more fun than waves; either ridge lift or lee waves. [/feeding weird internet troll]

That is a pretty nifty gizmo you have there with the Arduino.. Possibilities are endless with Arduino's. I have been wanting to buy a dev kit and learn, but been way too busy lately.

I've always thought about getting my license for sailplaning, but time and money is always an issue.

Where did you get your license?

Was it Crystalair or the location near Lake Elsinore?

Which place do you think is the better place to learn?

When I was at Crystalair one time, the clouds were in a chain running down the ridge, farther than you could see.

There were several Sailplanes in the sky that day. Mike and others flew to Palm Springs and back. It was awesome just to watch from the ground, but it really got the juices flowing.

There is a nice golf course near there. It has cabins that are reasonable in price, and the golf course itself is reasonable in price.

I only tried Crystalair. From my Interneting, it's more of a full time organized school. The others are part time. Having to share equipment, getting aircraft time is always an issue. You have to book your seat beyond the soaring forecast can predict. And as you've guessed it, there is a pecking order. If you can go out on weekdays, you will have a big advantage learning.

It's super fun, go try it. 3 axis control, fast, super glide.
It's also not as fun as HGing. You're all crouched down in a fiberglas canoe. Tall tows are expensive. Nothing like hooking a thermal in a HG. Coring a blue-topped thermal and going to the moon in a HG is just better. Coring with swifts and vultures tight against a foreign hillside.

I think my earlier analogy was best said: "It's like having sex

but with a condom on

" Takes away the best part of flying a HG. Still, go check it out. I think it was worth my investigation.

Oh and on the money issue. If you have to buy retail aircraft insurance in one year chucks. It's like 450$ if you fly a lot or a little. Oh and FAA background check thingy. Terrorist in sailplanes, Lol. "OMG, that talibani has us on glide. Hit the deck!"

When I get old and my dick stops working I'll fly sailplanes too. Until then, I'll see 'yall around Kagel.

Your dreams are the limit. The device is like 20$ and a kit with a bunch of junk is another 20$, you don't already have wire and transistors etc.

I hooked up servo motors, displays, 3axs-acceleration, ultrasonic sensors... But im just going to make a simple "speed to drive" mechanism. Tells you if you are in a tail or head wind. Keep it simple stupid. It's enclosed and working, but I'm working on the compression algorithm. Apparently the car speeds up the air close to its body.

When I was your age, I felt the same, but now in my fifties... I hold my breath on that thought.

No viagra yet, but maybe that explains my desire to consider sailpanes as I get older.

I hear you, that's is what I went. It's an awesome sport.
You get to soar like crazy, and it's not physical. You don't have to high side a turn, you just give it an inch of pedal. You don't have to run down a ramp, you just have a kid pace a few steps on your wing. You don't have to do no-step flares, you just pull the spoilers.

I can see myself... Golf pants, Cadillacs and, Sailplanes. If i'm so lucky. Aint no shame in it. Just right now, for me, it's HG. Make your own preference. I met a 19 year old kid out there going gonzo on the sailplane scene. Good for him.

Oh, the record from Crystalair... is Texas. That's amazing.
