Re: slack lines
Yes, I see that your harness is equipped with a stirrup. Well that certainly clears everything up doesn't it?kzadar wrote:please note harness stirrup!
My derriere could use a good smoking or you could just hold a match out post-burrito.OP wrote:lolz, soon i'll have some smoke for your rear end. Upload is sooo slow.
But seriously, we have two of the world's best aerobatics instructors in SoCal: Mitch McAleer & John Heiney. Why re-invent the wheel when Ken or anyone else who is interested can learn to minimize risk when going upside down? It's a small investment for a huge increase in safety margin.
If you upload the raw video to Google Drive I can take it and work some editing magic on it and bring out the fractional G-force issue that I clearly see in the frame still. If an experienced aerobatic pilot posts a picture of doing zero-G over the top I wouldn't be concerned. Some do zero-G apogee past vertical on their wangs but these are highly experienced pilots have it under reasonable control. There is a progression of learning that is best facilitated by a veteran aerobatic pilot. Take advantage of it.
The raw footage might contain illegal behavior. I'll let Ken control its distribution. The youtube version should be enough for the internet to talk shit about.
I did this areo clinic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4185m4yr88 I can talk about its content offline.

slack lines?
Get aload of maneuver #3, like Mitch said curl up in the corner of the bar like it's your mommy.

Thanks for posting the video and animated gif. Even the animated gif shows Ken's sail going into negative inflation. http://s21.postimg.org/4tben2j9h/ken.gifOP wrote:The video is in the video section: or....
In other words, Ken was on the verge of falling into his glider but was carried over the top by the parabolic arc of his body mass even though the glider itself was experiencing reverse inflation. I stand by my suggestion that Ken and anyone else interested seek out the tutelage of Mitch McAleer or John Heiney.
Here is the sail again in negative inflation and Ken is at a small fraction of 1-G.

Jim,
Thank you for your timely and experienced reply. I greatly value the comments of pilots with greater experience than I in unexpected flight regimes. Should I lose control of my wing again in the future I will promptly consult the owners manual and batten pattern.
Thanks kzadar
And now a note from our sponsor, WW:
We do not recommend aerobatics in hang gliders – there are many aircraft certificated for aerobatic flight in which this type of flying can be pursued with a much higher level of safety. And we do not support the promotion of aerobatic flight in hang gliders as a “normal or “acceptable use of the aircraft.

The knee hanger knee lines show fractional G-force billow even during the first 2 minutes of level flight. A better indicator are the lines to his hips. At 5:33 on the video his right hip line billows. This could be from fractional G-force, or possibly the pilot skillfully rolling his body counter-clockwise, like the Great Leslie(Great Race).
Beginners should avoid monkey see monkey do. Ken has been practicing that at Sylmar north of the bridge. Please note the extreme smoothness and laboratory like conditions at Big Sur without turbulence.
What would Sammy Hagar say?
