My Bi-Annual Personal Oz Report

Post by ©hris »

Hi All, flying here in OZ is great! I did really bad at the first competition...my mind was not in the right place at that time and i was still taking care of business in the states (that is my excuse anyway). The second comp "The Gulgong Classic"" was much better - I had my first top ten finish which I am very proud of considering 6 of the top ten pilots in the world were there - I even beat Jonny Durand one day ('he didnt talk to me for about 24 hours... hahah). The conditions were epic! 12 to 14k altitudes and the strongest thermals I have ever been in... my vario averager was on 1800fpm one day for about 15 turns and max vario that day was 2180fpm. The task were nearly all over 100km with a 215km task set one day.

My new glider took a bit of work to get set up the way I like but with Jonny, Dave Seib, and Geroff's help she is a good fast ship now and I would put it on the starting line with any other glider out there. Moyes gliders are the shit... period.

Anyway. I am in Sydney now for a while and have been sorting out some of my gear at the Moyes factory and hanging out.

I have been checking out the weather there and hate no one is having great flying... hopefully it will get better for you.

In jan. the Forbes flatland comp and the Bongong cup will both take place and should produce some great flying.

Snakes, kangaroos, parrots, beaches, kitesurfing, amazing hang gliding, topless beaches, meat pies, sausage rolls, beautiful girls.... its all happening.

That's awesome, Chris. Good luck in OZ. I guess I'll have to put that place on my list of destinations to visit for hang gliding and having fun. I think for now I'm just too inexperienced (and too chicken) for a Moyes Litespeed.

Hey Chris...

Glad to hear your having a blast. Keeping up with your comps on the OZ and I saw the picture!

Hey, we have topless beaches here too, you just need to know where to go. As for the flying...

So when is Johnny going to stop talking to you for a week?! Good luck in the next comp and beyond.
