RIDGE SOARING

Hello. I was wondering what your favorite ridge soaring sites are in So cal.Dave

Hi David,
In winter, for us, there's Avenue S, in Palmdale. It faces the north winds, good in waning Santa Anas. Kagel often works as a ridge but usually has thermals too ,so ridge flying technique discouraged.
It's often cold at Ave S, and a club guide is ncessary to naviagte landowner issues. Huge LZ somewhat downslope, very friendly flying with great desert views as sun is setting. It's not always just ridge; Our veterans can pick the right day at Ave S, soar high, and land back at the Kagel LZ.
Here's a newcomers view of the convenience. I didn;t realize at the time that "Dustin" was Dustin Martin, one of the top young pilot in the USA.

Torrey Pines in San Diego is a great ridge soaring site, but it has become overpopulated with paragliders. Still, on a strong day, it's really fun.

Soboba, near Hemet and San Jacinto is also a good ridge soaring site on the right day. If there's wind, you can ridge soar, but in no wind, there are plenty of thermals as well

Ah, but Dockweiler Beach in April--that's a fair test for 1 and all.
