Request from OZ report guy - If you own a Matrix Race....

Post by stebbins »

I have been talking to a guy from the OZ Report Forum who is about to buy a Matrix Race. He has a large chute now and has been informed by Kraig that he needs a smaller one. He asked me to check out what folks who own a Matrix Race have in their chute containter.

So if you own a Matrix Race, please post here what kind and size of chute you have.

He thanks you in advance, and so do I. (I will give him this link, so he can check without my getting into the middle.)

I'll start off: I have a Lara Gold. The size is whatever the largest one that will fit into the container is. I can't remember the size off hand, but my online friend has the details of what fits, so he can figure it out.

BTW, it is not as easy to pull one of these out of the container as it looks. Push away from your body TO THE SIDE first, then down. Betty Pfeiffer worked with me on it. That motion makes a VERY large difference in pullability. If you look carefully at the container, you can probably figure out why that motion helps.

Largest Chute That Will Fit the Matrix Race

Post by Andy Long »

Hi Sylmar Pilots,

I'm The Oz Report Guy George was referring to who's looking to order a Matrix Race but is also wanting to find the biggest chute possible to put in it.

Kraig Coomber tells me that with the Betty's Quantum line, the 330 is the largest that will fit in the Race. George was saying he and some of you guys are using the Lara Gold and that they fit in the Race.

I'm curious to know just which Lara Gold size you are using (I currently have the standard Lara 250 which I will sell). Once I know what size Lara Golds you are using, I can figure whether or not the ones you have have a higher, lower or the same descent rate as the Quantum 330. Then I'll just go with whatever chute has the lowest descent rate.

Any input you have, regarding the Race or the chutes you are using in them, would be appreciated. George has been a big help... but now has decided to turn me loose on you guys. ;>)

Thanks,

- Andy Long

I have the largest size lara gold chute in my matrix race - fits fine and is comfortable.

I have also pulled the chute several times and parachute clinics and have had no problems at all getting it out - like butter.

I have been flying this harness for two years now and it is not only super comfortable but holds all my pack-up gear for xc flying with room to spare.

After spending time at the Moyes factory in Sydney and working with Tess in the harness loft I can assure you that this is probably the best made and highest quality harness on the market - not to mention the most aerodynamic.

Which Lara Exactly?

Post by Andy Long »

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info. Which Lara Gold exactly are you referring to? Is yours the Lara 400 Gold? Here's the Wills site that gives the details.

Thanks,

It's the Lara Gold 250. I thought that was the largest... I didn't know there was a 400.

Consider trading it in

George; The 250 Lara Gold works very well. Have him try to arrange a trade in of his old reserve for a new one.

Thanks Joe. I hadn't thought of the trade-in.

or post it for sale, with some info about its condition, and see what you could get for $. I can think of at least one person interested in a large second parachute...

Chadness,

As soon as I have a Quantum 330, your "at least one person interested in a large second parachute" can have my Lara 250. I have no idea what it's worth. I'll post later with photos and some opinions of what the parachute is worth. And it's a regular Lara 250, not a Lara 250 Gold.

hi Andy,

oops, I re-read the thread and realized I thought it was a Lara 500. Anyway, yes that "one person" was me but I would be looking for a tandem chute. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks,
Chad
