Janyce is in USC Medical Center

Post by BudRob »

For those who do not know, Janyce Collins had a "hard landing" today, apparently flaring high at the end of the overshoot hill and pounding in hard enough to break her right arm and right foot.

She spent many hours in Olive View Hospital but was transferred to USC Medical center at about 10:00 PM with no work done for her injuries. The arm fracture (closed humorous fracture) will require surgery but the foot (heal fracture) may not. It is not sure at this point.

I visited her while at Olive View and she was in considerable pain. She told me that she wouldn't mind visitors or a phone call after the doctors get through the surgery but I don't have a phone or room number as of this writing.

Please give her a call or visit if you can. I'm sure she would appreciate seeing or hearing from her friends.

I called USC around 2 PM today to inquire about Janyce and we told that she is in room 1202 "awaiting surgery". This is an intensive care unit where there are no phones and the nurses give out very little information. Janyce CAN receive visitors for 5 minutes each hour, except between the hours of 7-8 AM, 3-4 PM, and 11-12 PM.

Janyce has been moved to Room 3320 in the Orthopedics Department. Visiting hours there are 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Visit to Jenise

Post by Cabbagehead »

Just got back from visiting Jenise at the hospital.

I won't say she's doing fine, because with 3 fractures in her arm and two in her heel she's in a lot of pain, only partly moderated by morphine. She was a tad depressed (duh!) when I arrived, but soon she perked up, and for the next 30 minutes she talked about stuff, like the accident, tandem flying Elsinore with Mitch last Sunday, and how the hospital tries to feed her sugar, white flour and tap water. She also told me a GOOD joke, which I plan on using alot!

She's scheduled for some surgery soon, but will probably be there in room 3320 for another week. She welcomes visitors, and begs them to smuggle her some organic food such as "Nuts, fruits, vegetables and seeds."Oh, and some bottled water; anykind will do.

Thanks for the news and updates. I am very sorry to learn of this incident. I hope Jenice recovers completely and quickly and that we see her back in the air -- better than ever before.

I know it is likely too early in her recovery for making out an accident report but, as a fellow pilot, I would appreciate reading one on this incident as I am sure there is something I could learn from it.

See y'all soon...

My wife Dayna went to see Janyce today and give her a bit of company. I hear that she was happy to see Dayna, but Dayna was a little unprepared to leave poor Samuel in the daycare center (apparently you need to be 14 to visit any patients).

Janyce said to list her cell phone number so others may call, if they feel inclinded to do so. 8)

New Hospital?

Post by frosty »

Janyce wants to thank all of her visitors, especially the organic food smugglers. It's starting to look like a health food store around her bed.

Janyce may be transferred to another hospital soon, possibly Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital. If you're planning on a visit, call her first to make sure you go to the right hospital.

Transferred to UCLA Medical Center

Post by frosty »

It wasn't easy, but Janyce managed to get transferred to UCLA Medical Center on Friday night. She should be going home in a few days, and then back for surgery in about a week. For directions see:

She's in Room 706A and her phone number there is 310-267-1555.
