Hello SHGA,

As the new "Julie the Cruise Director" for the Crestline Soaring Society, I cordially invite you to our fly-ins this year.

- July 12: Andy Jackson Airpark fly-in
- Sept 6: Andy Jackson Memorial fly-in

While picking the dates at our club meeting tonight, I made two points regarding the SHGA:

- Your club sets an incredible example for activities. A perusal of this forum shows many fun and educational events. We will not match your efforts in the near future, but we are inspired by them.
- One of our events this summer will be a "Crazy Ivan Kagel" trip. It's always fun to see your pilots at Marshall, yet we have stayed in our insular world. Obviously, I will coordinate with your leadership to get the skinny on the landing patterns and latest protocols. I picked the name of the event for the alliteration, not for the 360 rating (bad, obscure joke).

Hey John, thanks for the compliments. We'll be glad to host you guys and I'm sure we'll have a good showing from our membership. Make sure you give us a little notice and we'll ensure our paragliding launch is well manicured for the day.

if CSS were willing to add a tandem division to the flexwing event, would anyone here be interested in competing tandem--not necessarily with me, but in general, for fun...

Can't wait to have you guys. Please remember that this site requires a hang 3. Perhaps there's a way for one of our local instructor's to get the higher hour hang 2's in the air here on the cheap.

Hi all,

Friendly reminder about the fly-in.

Last I heard, we may have a live band. Food and a huge slip 'n slide should help keep the kiddos happy. I'll try to come up with a few picnic style games in case we have a quorum of offspring.

Events will be: spot landing, bomb drop, and glide distance (off the training hill). There should be trophies for intermediate and advanced in the first two comps.

Note that the flying has been better at Crestline than Kagel lately. That isn't uncommon this time of year. It isn't always the case, but it is common. They are farther from the ocean, so they usually get less of the inversion cap than we do. Sometimes a lot less.

I encourage Kagelites with the appropriate rating to go. I always have a good time there. I might not be able to make it, but if I go flying Saturday, that's where I'm going.

I know of several pilots who are going and also encourage others with appropriate ratings to come along too.

Let's make a good showing for the CSS crowd.

I just checked Rob McKenzie's forecast for Crestline. While it hasn't been stellar there the last week or so, it has been significantly better there than at Kagel. No issues of soarability at all. SO, if you want some flying this weekend, and a party too, that's the place to be!

Now if I can only get away to be there myself....

Very nice turnout for the CSS, Kagelites showed strongly with pilots and crew, let's see if I can name them all ....

I think that's most, so as you can see from the list, we represented SHGA very well. The flying was pretty good with several trips back and forth from Marshall to Crestline (we all took off from Crestline). Low saves were often common in front of Marshall, as low as the 700.
Freddy showed his skill by taking the falcon west, past pine flats, but out front. At times it looked like getting back may be an issue but he made it work by getting up, drifting back towards the billboard, and then pulling the glide out front (way to go).

The waterslide was a big hit and was occupied nearly constantly. The added water brought out the little frogs (actual frogs and of course the kids that turned into amphibians). Some of those little frogs tried to steal a ride to Kagel in glider bags or harness bags.

Nice job by the CSS, well organized and friendly environment. I overheard several comments about the number of gliders in the LZ and they seemed very appreciative of the support. Diane McKenzie seeing the turnout quickly mobilized her volunteers to make sure there was plenty of food to feed everyone. This annual event is just too close to miss. Glad I went. I used the forum to fill up my vehicle, that worked pretty well.
