I think Erwin had a bad cold a few weeks ago, the one that was going around. So I think he felt too under the weather to return bottles. Amazing how fast things turn bad without his efforts. Where are the 35 gallon plastic bags stored, anyone of us can put a new one in when its full.
Someone gave me an idea we should limit alcohol after sunset or a specific time of day. But just as we think of banning alcohol someone, somewhere is thinking of a way to ban hang gliding.
The CUPermit should be kept foremost in our minds. The neighborhood meeting will influence the outcome greatly. It seems we are bending over backwards for the neighbors, providing them with jobs, bailing them out of jail, letting their blood thirsty dogs run rampant and urinate on our oleanders. Maybe we should float the idea to our neighbors that we are zoned agricultural and if we don't get the CUP we could plan on installing a rooster farm. This would give them a little incentive to help us move the CUP forward.
Just as in 1981/82/83 we had a bad recession and the neighbors turned on us, today we have another period of house value(sink). When this happens I think the neighbors get irritable and lash out at anything that helps lower the value of their house. So any thing we can do to raise the neighborhood house values might help. We just had 4 years of a house value thermal(lift) and the neighbors were really happy. I wonder if crosscountry pilots would make good real estate investors, knowing when to leave a thermal(selling) and flying in sink(renting) and getting in low at the next thermal(buying a foreclosure).
Two of the new oleanders need to be replaced. Also we could park cars in the spots where there is no sound barrier.
Happy flying!

What?!
Doug, you forgot to mention the desperadoes herding rustled cattle through the LZ! You should round up a posse and go put things right.
Did anyone mention to you that several members of the Sylmar Neighborhood Council are forum members?
Maybe I'm missing your sarcasm. If so, forgive me and help me out: write "only foolin'" immediately following your wry quips.
I was looking at the worst case scenario 10 or 20 years down the road, as they taught us to do at Drake University school of management. You really have to use your imagination. In 10 years we will probably be a paraglider site and land in the wash the other side of the Gavina bridge. Without the permit we would have abandoned the LZ land by selling to an agricultural business as it is currently zoned. SHGA and USHPGA would negotiate with the Forest Service for an LZ nearer to launch or the base of the dam. The current LZ would be home to 1000 head of hogs used to generate methane gas, 1000 roosters, and a motocross track. It would be noisy and really smell in the summer. More realistically there would be dozens of homes and 600 cars a day in new traffic. With hindsight a hang glider park anchored here with a dozen pilots a day, most well educated and with pilots licenses, middle class, responsible, and being good neighbors should have been the move they made back in 2008.

Yes, Doug, use Verdana.
Seriously, just putting bottle caps in the trash and clearing the site of cans and bottles before we leave would help a lot. If there really is a box of big leaf bags around, could this be left in the Lost and Found cabinet on weekends? I'll help sort and tie so it's easier for Erwin to recycle. Or someone else, since that may be the next step, if it's too much for Erwin to keep up with.
