Monday, Ron W., Larry C. and I went over the back from Kagel.
The forecast was for 9k+ at Kagel and up to 12-13 in the desert. Also the prediction was for light SW winds. Unfortunately, the forecast was not right. High clouds and stronger than predicted winds made the flights much tougher than we expected.
Ron, however, made it to Crystal Air (and could easily have gone farther.) I made it to Littlerock, and Larry landed in the gravel pit along the 14 fwy. Ron got significantly higher than we did, and never really got low. Larry and I, however, got low quite early, and I almost landed with him at the gravel pit. I did get up to 6800' MSL from a thermal at the pit. But I never got that high again. I basically scratched my way from the gravel pit to Littlerock.
Ron certainly kicked our butts. But, since I've always wanted to fly towards my home in Palmdale from Kagel, I'm happy with it.
Great job, Ron! And thanks for the retrieve, Dana!
