Do you ever come home from a long day of work and school, and just sit back and watch paragliders fall to their doom? Some how its so satisfying.

Fair enough, OP. One big thing I noticed at Point of the Mountain was how many PG pilots seemed to have their heads up their "#$$. On more than one occasion I had to dodge a PG pilot who was not looking in the direction of travel. They just seemed like they were "tourists" looking around at the scenery. Kind of scary. I think PG flying looks deceptively safe and easy, and brings in some folks who should really not be flying.

You're right, Tom. I apologize for OP and his childish antics. And by the way, I really liked your show - "Soul Train". I wish it was still on.

I was joking. I can't watch them at all. 900 people have died paragliding in the last decade. Every time I watch paragliding I keep thinging this is about to happen: That is so scary, PGing has lost its appeal.

There, Tom, you see? The lad says he's sorry. He was just joking. Good job, OP. Way to step up to the plate. I'm proud of you.

What ? 900 even not 899 or 901 an even number leaves me skeptical of OPs statement of facts.

What ?? 900 an even number makes me doubt your facts . I did notice an omission of hang gliding numbers . Lets take up the safety debate at the lz .

Tom's right, OP. That number does seem a bit conspicuous. Check your figures.

892 known fatalities since 2002, 17 so far in 2012. You can argue about the collection of the statistics when comparing to HGing, but you can't really argue about the shear number.

http://www.cometclones.com/mythology2012.htm

Just paragliding deaths not including:
Deaths of launch assistants
Non-paragliding accidents: hang gliding HG and base jumping BJ
Motorized accidents: power paragliding PPG and power hang gliding PHG
(PPG, BJ, PHG and HG fatalities are occasionally listed in bullets for clarification.)
Medical-related death after a safe landing
Boat or vehicle towing with no intent to release (parasailing)
Speedflying on skydiving parachutes
Deaths of rescuers
Kiting (static line towing, ski glider with frame) and kiteboarding
Death by firearm (suicide, murder, military force)
Parachute jump from a tandem paraglider
Paragliding in national armed forces exercises

The worst year for hang gliding was in 1977 with 48 deaths:
http://articles.latimes.com/1987-01-25/ ... ang-glider
It was the year after a nation wide movie was released.

PG guy in the surf

So landing in the surf is a PG problem?

Methinks he doth protest too much.
I predict Orian will fly PGs before he's through.

Why do most hg pilots SUCK at making vids? Have you ever noticed how much more APPEALING pg vids are than hg vids? I watch a lot of flying videos and I can think of two or three HQ, well-filmed, and interestingly edited hg vids from the past few years, whereas I can come up with (and have prob. posted) at least five or six excellent pg vids from this year alone.

and i also know (or know of) SEVERAL world class pilots who fly both, and fly both well. those same pilots would come here and call MOST of us kingposted pilots utter dorks, after watching us attempt to fly our range intelligently.

it's all perspective and learning. an awesome pilot is just that--doesn't matter WHAT he/she flies. and NO ONE is as good, talented, or wise as (s)he may think. there's ALWAYS someone better.

the best part of having a spectacular slam-in or two is that you no longer harbor illusions or ego about how good you are, as compared to "lesser" pilots. you know you're a Loser.
