first aid / cpr / bls training: r u interested?

if you are interested enough to commit to attending a training in the l/z, please respond. as most of us are OLD, and many of the young ones have broken arms, it might not be a bad idea...

I had a class for CCU's today at www.LifesaverEd.com in Pasadena. I talked to one of the instructor's. They will come out to Sylmar and give a four hour class. If we have six or more students, they will drop the price 10%; $50.00 to $45.00. There will be a travel fee from Pasadena to Sylmar. The BLS manual is $15.00.

The travel fee comes out to about $50.00. Anything up to fifteen miles is $25.00. Every five miles is another $20.00.

They are not the only trick in town, but I've been dealing with them for many years and I like there program. I'm sure that we could find a place closer and reduce the travel fee to $25.00 instead of $50.00.

I would like to talk to the board and have them consider paying for the travel fee. In doing so, I would hope that it encouraged members to get their cards.

I'd also like to look into putting together some sort of serious trauma kit for the LZ. Has this been tried before?

hey steve,
since i don't do much else (e.g. help w/ the Gazebo or respond to any of Rome's cajoling) to benefit our club, I volunteered to put together a basic slam-in kit. the proposed contents are in the "edited first aid kit" post. check it out and make additions, as you see fit. i found a company that will make kits to order and also supply a sturdy, dust proof, water resistant, crush proof container.

Rob, is allowing for the club to pay the travel fee ... and a five hundred dollar finders fee that goes to me.

Kidding about the finders fee.

So, again ... the price is $45.00 for the BLS course, and $15.00 for the BLS manual.

I think the class will be a good place for questions.

I'm not sure if we need a gurney in the LZ. The medical response time is usually pretty good; within seven to ten minutes. As long as we respond quickly, call 911, and administer CPR; if needed ... We should move the subject as little as possible.

These are questions, which the instructor's who will be teaching can answer.

I would like to see if we get any other interested pilots before contacting about a time.

We actually have several club members, whom sometime in their lives have taken a CPR/BLS course.

I gave Rob a resuscitation mask in a hard case. I think it will make it your way via Rob. You can add it to the kit you're assembling.

There are six people who are interested in taking the BLS course.

Pi-Hsuan will be back from Taiwan mid August. I will talk to personnel from www.lifesavered.com and post dates of convenience, starting after the twentieth of August.

They will need payment in advance, but we can work that out once everyone agrees on a date to have the class.

I'll also sit down with them and get the exact pricing and dates they can come out. I'll figure on a date after the seventh of December.

I wouldn't think the price has changed, but if it has, it can't be more than a few bucks.
