How much can we expect from the SHGA for a budget?
I know... money, money, money; it's all I think about.
And for those still counting, the vote is now:
4 - do nothing
10 - replace (counting Homer)
6 - refurbish
That's more votes than were submitted in the 2006 SHGA election.

Taking our time is one thing. Talking endlessly is another. My concern is that this will be talked to death and will take WAY too long. My thoughts about the overall process are noted below:
Stop fooling around with what we have - tear it out and replace it.
Do it professionally - everyone has a cheap way to do it but let's just get it done right the first time. The club has money, doesn't it??
Determine a budget, SET A TARGET DATE for the final decision to be made. Someone will always gripe later but you will NEVER please everyone. I respect any board member that makes decisions and spends some of OUR money on something usefull for the membership. If I want it done differently the next time, I will run for the BOD. Until then, just do it; I will live with it.
Have all the meetings your want or need before the target date. Send e-mails, post to newsletter, or whatever else needs to be done to let everyone know how they can throw in their two cents. Stick to the schedule no matter how many of few respond. I would love to see a new struction BEFORE summer! Is this too optimistic? I think not.

I'm with the just replace it camp... Its long over due. Keep in mind the Gazebo has been standing there for the better part of 20 years with minimal upkeep. To try an revamp what is currently there is in my opinion a waste of time and money. Chances are real good that between the Gazebo eating vine that has been tearing the thing apart over the past dozen years, plus wear and tear from the elements, its too far gone.
My vote would be to tear it down and replace it with something that is better built and built right.... wich would include posts that are bolted above grade to galvanized steel post plates that are set into cocrete footings...with or without a concrete slab. If our current structure was built the right way the first time around, and had propper upkeep that includes a fresh coat of paint every few years, and the absence of excessive plant life.....we would have a Gazebo that is still standing in good shape and not on the verge of collapse. If were going to do, lets do it right.........

BOD overwhelmingly supports the gazebo project
At the BOD meeting tonight the members finally got to the discussion about the gazebo. Seems like it took forever for us to get to it 
Bottom line it looks like several plans are likely to be accepted/considered. Plans from a basic repair to a full rebuild are desired.
Some of the elements that need to considered will be discussed among an emerging committee that needs volunteers. Ideally we need 4 or 5 members that want to be involved in the design and management of the Gazebo Project.
Preliminarily the BOD would like to see the project completed by years end, however a goal of having it complete by the Dahlston Cup is highly desired.
There's a few items that are a bit lengthy to be discussed here (generally deals with our not having a conditional use permit), but the design needs to keep that fact into consideration to be successful.
More information will be forthcoming, budget spoken about runs from a basic repair job in the $750 range, gazebo enhancement in the $2500 range and a full redesign somewhere above $5k.
Got idea's, good management skills with a engineering background, or strong desire to make a difference? I need help in proving to the BOD that members are ready willing and able to see this thing done. Phil, Rick, JT, Jim Merc come on guys let's get going.
