Another $25,000?

Nice one, Sebastian.

When you start talking codes and ADA, $25K will probably just about cover the cost of the two restroom signs.
In 1931, we completed the Empire State Building in under 15 months (3 months ahead of schedule), 40% under budget and it remained the tallest building in the world for 40 years. Today we are building the new One World Trade Center building which will cost 10 times as much in equal dollars, take 10 times as long, and won't even exceed the roof height of the Sears Tower built in 1973. Will all that extra cost and time make it 10X as safe as the Empire State Building? Was the Empire State Building unsafe for the last 80 years? It even took a direct hit by a B-25 bomber in 1945 with little effect.
Are we getting our money's worth out of these costly regulations? Somebody is, and it's paralyzing the rest of us.

Tell Me About It!
Tell me about it! I work in Banking - evil, evil people trying to screw everyone - the most heavily federally regulated industry in the country.Glenn wrote:In 1931, we completed the Empire State Building in under 15 months (3 months ahead of schedule), 40% under budget and it remained the tallest building in the world for 40 years. These things start at 15k not installed.

Why do I get the feeling 25k is going to be the first plummer's bill if it gets vandalized.

You'll need to find an Englishman, if you want a proper attendant, Glenn.
All goofiness aside, the club has a serious opportunity to expand on the facilities in a way that would make it more attractive for pilots and their families. If we get a $25K starter or it can be done for that or less, it is the next best thing to buying the launch property. More participants, more power... And families mean more than flying crazies to government.
Unfortunately, launch is way out of our means; bathrooms aren't.

Seabass, I agree with your approach.
Concerning the code and ADA, all my projects have to go through ADA plan reviews. That is 18-years of having to negotiate with the ADA compliance officers.
Building an ADA compliant restroom will not cost much more than building a standard restroom. Especially building it from scratch. Grab bars are the only extra accessories that are required in an accessible restroom. The rest of the requirements are the mounting heights for fixtures and accessories; and the clearance for the wheelchairs.
The most expensive part of the restroom project would probably be getting the sewage line to the property and the hook-up.

Maybe he meant U.S. Military retail? What did Proxmire say those seats cost? Can't we just use the funds to install kegs and taps and mark them with half-moons?OP wrote:Where have I heard this before?skygeek AKA Seabass wrote:With the resources at our disposal we can build it for 1/2 the cost of retail...

So I'm an Indian giver? Sue me if my right to privacy offends you! BTW - DBEG, I spoke w/ Alarcón's office and they hooked me up w/ an FBO at Whiteman that volunteered a few self-powered Becker Avionics ATC-4401-1-175's as long as we get that 501(c)(3) sorted. There's this great pub at Bob Hope near little grassy strip and first round's on me!skygeek AKA Seabass wrote:....ME. That's almost as funny as a disappearing track log.
