***December 2012 will mark one hundred year of amateur radio operator and station licensing by the United States government.
According to an estimate made in 2011 by the American Radio Relay League, two million people throughout the world are regularly involved with amateur radio.
About 830,000 amateur radio stations are located in the IARU Region 2 (the Americas), followed by IARU Region 3 (South East Asia and the Pacific Ocean) with 750,000 stations. A significantly smaller number, about 400,000, are located in IARU Region 1 (Europe, middle East, CIS, Africa).
SHGA board has approved the placement of a radio on the gazebo, in the LZ. Inviting the Amateur radio club, and an independent agency (FCC) into our club.
To each his own, and what ever they do is their business, but now we have taken on responsibility that goes beyond individuals doing what they want, when they want.
Our club kicked out a member for doing loops in a location SHGA deems illegal. Our board gave him papers, which pointed out that if he is caught on our land, he runs the risk of being arrested.
Does this make our board “Weird awful folks?
Are they Nazis? Or do we, as a club, have the right to act on “Club rules.
The FCC has rules, which may not be respected, but most definitely, enforced and as one member has already pointed out, fines can be steep. Whether it is an unlicensed user, someone illegally using a channel for commercial use, etc. A radio on the gazebo, in the LZ, should not accommodate any illegal activities.
Imagine that! FCC governs the United States amateur radio licensing under strict federal regulations. By the way, SHGA has regulations and will act on them too.
… Just like any other club! (FAA, FCC, USHGA, etc)
I've already mentioned one example of SHGA flexing there muscles on someone breaking our rules…another was a member receiving thirty days off the site for dangerously driving, after leaving our LZ.
Let’s not forget, Legally we need an USHGA rating, which comes with rules and regulations.
Oh! Yeah! Did I mention that SHGA demands that you have a certain rating, and a USHGA cards to fly our site.
Damn Nazis!
Let someone continue abusing that rule, and see where it gets them.
Why don’t we just say, F#$% them all.
They are all Nazis…right?
Or, are we Nazis? Picking and choosing, which rules suit us?
Does anyone see any mention of a channel for instructional use in our forum? No, and for good reason, it’s illegal.
For the protection of our club, I think our board should look at our bylaws, make adjustments, and add a few new laws. Since we all know that unlicensed users should not have the keys to the radio, then why not add it to our bylaws, along with not using it for commercial use. Both of which the board has either expressed an opinion, or applied changes in the last few months.
I see warnings being endless, and pointless. So I say let’s cut to the chase, and add them to our bylaws.

Just looking out for our clubs interests. I'd hate to see us getting fined for something that we could avoid.
I want Amateur radio people to respect our club, on the fact that we can follow their rules.
All the guys I've met are pretty cool, and will bend over backwards to help us.
They hold nothing personal.
Maybe we can get a few of them to learn how to hang glide.
I will send everything you need for testing.

Yes. Rebut. All you need is a youtube account.

Like most things it's easy to do poorly. Hard to do well. Some of the "hitler reacts" memes make me cry. Like the one where Hitler runs out of orange juice... or when the iPhone 5 gets a new connector.
Oh, if you speak German. Mute the audio, otherwise it wont work.

Busto's main good points:
There are HAM rules.
Complying with them is easily done.
My point:
No one cares.
They aren't going to do a Ham foxhunt.
Back to joking around.

These are literally the ever vigilant ham nazis. They don't sleep, always on guard, detecting all unauthorized broadcasts. They can shut you down within minutes. Federal agents in helicopters will swarm the scene. The feds are deadly serious about Ham radio.

Mike M. has shown that the fines are real. Doubtful, but real.
I gathered information to show everyone that they are a real club, with serious backing.
Not a threat. but a fact.
We expect our members and others to follow our rules, and luckily for us, most do.
I'm sure the board appreciates the fact that everyone follows the rules. The last thing our board wants to do is look like pricks, enforcing them.
Not individually; because I don't care, but as a club (SHGA), I would think that we would respect other organizations rules, the same way we appreciate other clubs respect towards ours.
It doesn't seem like much to do so, and that was the point.
We kicked out Deno under an assumption, what if. Joe Greblo had already experienced what could happen if we crashed into a house doing loops. It was Joe doing loops to make sure it never happened again. He understood that we could not afford to find out what the penalty would be if it happened again.
Mike M. pointed out what happens if we get caught without a Ham Radio license.
The chance of Deno doing loops into a house was slim. The chances of us getting caught using the ham radio illegally...less likely, but still a possibility.
Do what you want, but I think our club should always consider the worst, and prevent it.

Busto please stop!
Creating all these "what if" scenarios and talking about fines etc. on the forum is very counterproductive.
We are all relatively reasonable people and everyone involved including myself is intending on doing this in proper manner with club approval of course. It's a simple matter that a few minutes of discussion can resolve to make most members happy.

That "What if" is what we used to make a bylaw to stop Loops over houses.
A law was made by "reasonable people" well before you came around, which was developed over "What if".
I'll call it the "What if someone does a loop and lands in the houses." A law was born.
I didn't come up with the "What if" ...I just pointed it out.
"What if" we get a fine levied against us? A questioned asked from a few members concerning illegal use of Ham radio.
What is "counterproductive" is people ignoring the "What ifs", because it's always a possibility.
It's obvious you have not been to a board meeting.

I never said your concerns are invalid, you raise very legitimate points that need to be addressed, just not here. I am going to the next board meeting as you suggested where we can discuss this properly in person. I am all for doing this right, but as we all know no matter what the final decision not all will be happy.
