A quick detail as I had to hack my way through this process.  EVEN IF YOU HAD A USERNAME DIFFERENT FROM YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT, you still need to enter your email address to reset your password associated with your account.  Your old username is deprecated apparently and you will need to use your email address as a login username going forward.
